The exhibition of selected institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS), “Light is Life”, which you can visit from 11th June in the building of the CAS (Národní 3, Prague), introduces the role of light and lighting technology in everyday life and in scientific research.
The exhibition presents the most interesting phenomena of light, entertains with international creative posters, and allows visitors to look into the heart of superlaser.
The visitors have also a possibility to see the planet Saturn with professional telescope at the improvised observatory. Without leaving the building of the Czech Academy of Sciences the visitors learn how the condensed darkness looks like, what light pollution is, and also become familier with the various projects from different instutes of the CAS.
At the exhibition you can also see the super high tech TV screen with Ambilight which shows the images on the wall.
The exhibition was opened by Prof. Ing. Jiří Drahoš, DrSc., dr. h. c., the President of the CAS on Wednesday, 10th June 2015 at 5:00 PM at the main hall of the building of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
This is a joint project of the Centre of Administration and Operations of the CAS, v. v. i., the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the CAS, v. v. i., the projects ELI Beamlines and HiLASE of the Institute of Physics of the CAS, v. v. i., the Astronomical Institute of the CAS, v. v. i., and Philips partner company. The exhibition is open every weekday from 9.00 AM to 5:00 PM till the 2nd July, 2015 and it is free of charge.
ELI Beamlines project is presented by X-ray laser which works at a wavelength of 21.2 nm and uses for active environment zinc plasma.
It is one of the activities of the International Year of Light 2015 which is the ideal instrument to ensure the necessary increased worldwide awareness of the central role of light in the present and in the future of us all. It promotes the presence of light in science and culture, and the importance of light-based technologies for the equitable development of global society.
