Professor Benno Willke is leading the laser group at the AEI and is responsible for the Advanced LIGO pre-stabilized laser subsystem.
He is a member of the team that observed ripples in the fabric of spacetime called gravitational waves, arriving at the earth from a cataclysmic event in the distant universe. This confirms a major prediction of Albert Einstein’s 1915 general theory of relativity and opens an unprecedented new window onto the cosmos.
Professor Willke visited ELI Beamlines laser and experimental halls and had the opportunity to meet with ELI Beamlines leaders – Roman Hvězda and Georg Korn.
The interview with professor Willke in Czech television ČT24 Civilizace can be presented here.
