Science Challenge – final round

Science Challenge is a new competition for teams of high school students who have the courage to innovate laser research. It is organized by the laser centres of the Institute of Physics – ELI Beamlines and HiLASE Centre.

Each team consists of 1 teacher as a mentor and 3 high school students aged 15-19.

From 8th November 2021 till 10th  January 2022, teams had the opportunity to participate in the online round of the competition. During this part of the challenge, students created the most effective program to automate laser systems that could find applications in the industry.

Now we know three winning teams that will face a 24-hour challenge directly at the laser centres. The final round will take place on February 18-19, 2022. That’s where we will add hardware to the programming, so screwdriver, lenses, and lasers! Students will tackle a lot of new information in the areas of programming, optics, physics, and (most importantly) teamwork in a group of enthusiasts.
